TOM HADFIELD: TMH MASONRY, LLC
He always liked being in charge and knowing what was happening; which meant Tom had a history of being the youngest among co-workers, apprentices, bricklayers, stone masons, and foremen. In 1984, after eight years of working in the masonry trade, he decided to go into business for himself.
And that was it – the humble beginnings of TMH Masonry, LLC. Tom hired his brother and the guy who taught him how to lay brick. It was just the three of them to start. There was no elaborate thought process or long-term business plan; just a wheelbarrow, a shovel, a used mixer, and the will to keep going.

Even before he went into business for himself, his mindset was that of a reputable business owner. Because for Tom, it’s always been about more than doing nice masonry work. In the early years, when a homeowner told him to remember that this was the most important job he’s ever had; Tom responded the only way he knew how. He replied, “Every job is the most important job I’ve ever had.” And that was exactly right.
Doing what needed to be done meant that the family business became a way of life for the Hadfields; which still holds true for Tom’s daughter and his wife. Their day-to-day is what grew TMH Masonry to what it is; and running the family business is part of who they are. Today Tom identifies his role as that of the guy who feeds the company work; he recognizes his team for the rest, “We wouldn’t be where we are, if it wasn’t for the guys in the field.”
TMH Masonry’s team of highly skilled masons are the ones who continue to carry out the unsaid but ingrained mission of the company – that everybody deserves to have what they want done, done right. And when it’s still left unsaid but the masonry work is done, happy customers are all of the gratification they need. That’s what’s important.
